I discovered this Gaia site on the web by following a link from a Penny-Arcade comic.  I don't know who made it.

That would be me!  I built the shell and my team built much of the initial content, but now it's maintained by another agency and has grown a lot since then.  It was an earlier version of Gaia, so we made our own SEO system for it.  We had a LOT of trouble at first because the shell is AS3 and the modules were a mix of AS2 and AS3, and a lot of jury-rigging was involved in getting everything to talk to each other.  It was, as they say, "a learning experience".
Gaia is magic.
