I'm starting this thread to get an idea of what people would like lessons of most.  This is specifically for Gaia related functionality.  Please keep in mind that lessons on how to learn Flash or AS3 in general are not the focus of this thread.

I can only write these lessons in my spare time, and so I would very much appreciate any experienced Gaia users who can help provide any of the requested lessons here.  I will be sure to add your contributions to the Wiki, and host your lesson file downloads, as well!  Smiley

Steven,

I would recommend beginning where Lesson 01 left off by continuing to build out a simple, but complete site.  IMHO developers interested in using the Gaia Framework would like to learn how to create a complete working site from start to finish . . . maybe something along the following:

  • Lesson 02 - Global Navigation
  • Lesson 03 - External Text & Graphic Assets
  • Lesson 04 - External Audio & Vidoe Assets
  • Lesson 05 - Dynamic External Assets
  • Lesson 06 - Custom Preloader
  • Lesson 07 - SEO

My 2 Cents.

Hi folks.
I agree with those two over me.
I think that would be a nice order.

Thanks for your feedback.  Just in case you missed it, I already wrote a lesson on global navigation.  Basic asset use is obviously an issue for some people so I'll write that tutorial next.

i d like to see a lesson with possibilities of modyfying and playing around with the site/ scaffold structure in order to change the flow of the website or to break the flow.
Or better, examples of possible interesting alternative project setups / xml structures.
or mixing gaia with other frameworks like pixlib for example
or....tips on how to plan out programming a gaia project when working with several programmers...

just a few ideas from the top of my head

http://www.gaiaflashframework.com/wiki/index.php?title=Introduction_To_Assets

I have finished the Introduction to Assets lesson.  If you already know how to use Assets, you can probably skip it.  This lesson is currently for AS3 only.  An AS2 version is in the works.

Desperately seeking:

Multi-language website tutorials!!!!!!!

Two roadblocks I am having as I undertake my first multi-lingual site:

1. I am having a hard time pre-planning and mapping out folder structures in relation to Gaia. What's the best mulit-lingual folder structure to map out BEFORE development starts on a multi-lingual site, keeping SVN in mind as well.

2. Would like some clarification on the best way to feed in content to my Gaia project. There seem to be a few ways to do this and I would like see all the ways this could be done. Do I have a zillion xhtml files from and seo scaffold and use the copy attribute? Do I have an xml file as an asset for each language/asset I need? What way is tidier, cleaner, quicker?

All these things I would love to have, as the first post said, a nice walk through or tutorial on this.

Great framework btw!

Multi-Language Site examples. What the XML's looks like and what needs to be done for it to be working.

Agreeing with afoutsjr and ilanb. I think developing skills in other areas will be faster, if you have the fundamentals solidly in place first.

Could you please send out a tweet when you complete a lesson? I want to make sure i don't miss anything here.

Sweet!

As a newbie to flash and actionscript in general I'm not currently sleeping trying to cram in as much knowledge in as I can, about how the framework works best, first, and then delving more into experimentation.

A nice set of lessons going through the best practices for the fundamental ideas would be a life-saver, the structure mentioned earlier would be sweeeet.

   * Lesson 02 - Global Navigation
   * Lesson 03 - External Text & Graphic Assets
   * Lesson 04 - External Audio & Video Assets
   * Lesson 05 - Dynamic External Assets
   * Lesson 06 - Custom Preloader
   * Lesson 07 - SEO

I've figured out (or at least figured out a method of) using global navigation, dynamic external assets and custom preloaders but have no idea if I'm "going the long way 'round" and also if I'm missing an easier way that the framework has already taken care of.

The forum and the people giving advice there is a great place to work through stuff, your documentation is also extremely useful, especially after reading it more than once,
but a lesson set would be the icing on the cake, and I expect it would free up a lot of your time answering questions, that you're sure you've answered 1009 times already and referring people to previous posts you've covered several times.

to be honest the demo site (provided at http://www.tmrw.co.uk/blog/gaia-framework-demo-site/) was invaluable to me, and I may well of given up by getting too frustrated because I didn't have a clue how it would fit together, but with a working sites code available I stuck at it and now have myself a website that I'm pretty happy with, I've still got a load of learning to do and any lessons I would be eagerly lapped up, but as mentioned earlier specific GAIA basics (& advanced) related lessons would be sweeet.
